Speed Mapping Challenge

A student competition initiated by the Canadian Hydrographic Service, the COMREN network, and the Canadian Hydrographic Association.

Unleash your cartographic skills in the exciting Marine Navigational Maps Speed Mapping Challenge! Form a team of 2 to 4 students and reinvent the way navigational charts are produced.

We are thrilled to invite you to participate in our upcoming Speed Mapping Challenge, a unique opportunity to showcase your cartographic prowess and contribute to the world of marine navigation!

This competition is designed to test your ability to create accurate, detailed navigational maps under time pressure. It is a fantastic chance to apply your theoretical knowledge in a practical, exciting, and competitive environment.

Whether you’re studying geography, marine biology, environmental science, or simply have a passion for cartography, this challenge is a great platform to enhance your skills, engage with like-minded individuals, and make a tangible contribution to the marine navigation community.

Participants will be given a specific marine area to map and a set time to complete their work. Prizes will be awarded for the most accurate and creative maps, including a grand prize of $5000.

But it’s not just about the competition, this event is also a chance to network with professionals in the field, learn more about marine navigation, and potentially open doors to future career opportunities.

The challenge will take place over 2 weeks. It will start on April 29, 2024, and end on May 13, 2024. The 3 winning teams will be announced on May 20, 2024.
